Summer Time Fun!

Okay, so one day, some day, I'll actually start blogging regularly.  So if anyone anywhere actually reads what I have to say, they can do so more frequently.  :)

My last post gave you my basic thoughts for summer time.

Planning has NOT went so hot so far.

Weather ..... hot.

Planning..... not so much.

Anyway, we have managed to run errands and stick close to home.   For most of the first week of summer I have felt horrible.  Achy and a sore throat.

We have went to the library where the kiddos received a card for a free burger or chicken nuggets at McDonalds and my kids have enjoyed Vacation Bible School at a local church.

Yesterday we did get to take in a summer show at the local movie theater.  $1 gets you in the door for a "kiddie" film that is already on DVD and $1.50 for a kid coke and $1.50 for a kid popcorn.

So, $4.00 per person and we can have a fun time for a couple of hours.

It turned out pretty fun.  And the kids did not argue once.  Not one single time I tell you.  Other than a couple of trips to the bathroom it was a calm experience.

Today we went to McDonald's for lunch (free chicken nuggets and burgers for the kids) and playtime.

So far, we have had a great, frugal week.

Have you done anything super great for summer that was frugal fun?

Summer Time

I know I haven't posted in F-O-R-E-V-E-R.  I have just been so busy and this blog has not been a priority at all. So with summer time here I am attempting to start back with the posting.

Summer time is upon us.  I am super excited.  This year we are going to have a friend over for the summer.  I am planning a summer stay at home day camp.  :)  And I am actually excited.

I have decided to plan daily activties, crafts, movies, etc. to keep their summer planned and fun.  Anything is better than hearing "I'm bored" all day by 3 girls ranging from 5-9.

I haven't finalized the plans just yet but they are in progress.

Watch for future posts regarding summer plans.

And I am always up for suggestions for summer stay at home day camp.

Excellent Shopping Day

I have to share the status of my shopping day. I ended up going to four stores today, CVS, Walgreen, Wal-Mart and Kroger. Grand total spent was 100.24 and I saved $90.80. Yay!!! It was a pretty good trip, considering I need to buy several items that I didn't have coupons for.

The above picture is from Kroger. There are several missing items from the pictures including 2 more boxes of cereal, 6 pack of 20oz Coca-Cola, Organic Salad Dressing, Sparkling Water, Tortilla Chips, and 2 Annie Noodle Bowls.
At Kroger, I spent $78.45 and saved $61.32. Not too bad considering I bought several items that I didn't have coupons for.

Pictured above is the trip to Wal-Mart. I racked up on FREEBIES!!! My actual out of pocket only ended up to be $13.23. I saved .................. $15.75. That is the shopping trips I like. :)

Walgreens was a pretty boring trip this week. They were out of several items I wanted, but I did score the above deals for $7.30, with $2.00 in Register Rewards for a future trip. Total savings was $11.48. With RR, everything averaged out to be less that $1 an item.

CVS was a major disappointment this week for me. They were out of EVERYTHING that I was looking for. I ended up only getting 2 Dawn for $1.26. Kind of boring, I know. But since I was already there I decided to get what they did have.
Overall, not too shabby of a week. Hope everyone had a good week.

Edible Play Dough

Both of my daughters love play dough. They frequently get sets for birthdays or holidays. Here is a recipe for edible play dough. I like this idea because not only do they get play time but they get a little snack in the process.

1 cup peanut butter
1 cup nonfat dry milk
2/3 cup powdered sugar

Place peanut butter in a large bowl and begin working in both the dry milk and powdered sugar in small batches. Working it with your fingers works best. In the end the texture should be like play dough. :) If it is too sticky add more dry milk. If too dry, add more peanut butter. This will keep up to a week closed tightly in a plastic bag or container.

The kids can play with making different snack creations using pretzels, raisins, nuts, candies, etc.

Enjoy!!!

Busy, Busy, Busy

I have come to the realization that I have not posted anything on this here blog in weeks. Several weeks.

I have been busy, busy, busy. My husband has been on a mission trip. My youngest daughter spent 3 days in the hospital. Trying to get the 9 year old on board with her school work. House cleaned. Yada ..... Yada..... Blah ....... Blah........ Blah..........

Life has been attempting to kick my butt.

So here I sit with absolutely nothing to contribute to living a frugal life.

Nothing....

at.....

all.......................

So, maybe later today. For now I'm sitting in my living room with the windows open and the ceiling fans going. Totally enjoying bathing my senses in the upcoming spring season.

Happy Monday Y'all!!!!

PS In the tradition of "frugal" blogs/websites, I'm thinking of allowing Monday's blogs to be "Menu Planning Monday" Stay tuned.............
